Tina Turner and Her Love of Homeopathic Medicine
Tina Turner (1939-2023), the "Queen of Rock & Roll, was "Simply, The Best"
This short excerpt was derived from Dana Ullman’s The Homeopathic Revolution: Why Famous People and Cultural Heroes Choose Homeopathy, Berkeley: North Atlantic Books, 2008.
In the chapter about famous musicians who have used and advocated for homeopathy include: Cher, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltry, Bob Weir, Axl Rose, Annie Lennox, Nelly Furtado, Dizzy Gillespie, Ravi Shankar, and Yehudi Menuhin. If you want to learn about the amazing stories about these world-class musicians and their love of and appreciation for homeopathy, get The Homeopathic Revolution!
NEW NOTE: The mainstream media is reporting on the life and death of Tina Turner in a very predictable way. The mainstream media is now saying that she regrets that she didn’t use conventional medicines (this is a lie because she has had a long history of using alternative AND conventional medicines). It is all-too-common for the media to describe people and the world in black and white ways, when, in fact, the truth is much more complex and nuanced.
What is more insidious about the mainstream media’s reporting is that they imply that Tina regretted using homeopathy and natural treatments. That is an additional mistruth. As a practicing Buddhist (which much of the media is also ignoring), Tina had a deep respect for natural rhythms of nature and of the body.
Even though Tina Turner used homeopathic medicines and natural therapies for many decades, the fact that she had had many serious chronic diseases, ranging from tuberculosis, cancer, stroke, high blood pressure, and kidney disease, the fact that she survived until 83 years old is ITSELF evidence that these natural therapies helped her in profound ways.
Britain’s “OK Magazine” (a magazine that specializes in reporting on British Royalty and celebrities) actually had the audacity to publish: “Due to her condition, Turner suffered a stroke in 2013, and later learned that her "kidneys didn't work that well anymore."
She was prescribed pills for her medical issues, though she confessed they made her "feel even worse." She then decided to see a homeopathic doctor in France where she saw shockingly positive results.”
Needless to say, the fact that this reporting considered positive results to be “shockingly” is remarkable…and it acknowledges that Tina DID resort to using conventional treatments BUT these treatments made her “feel even worse,” while homeopathic treatment gave her the results she desired.
Tina Turner, often called the queen of rock & roll, is an American pop, rock, and soul singer who has won seven Grammies. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
It is hard to imagine, but during the early 1970s this powerful woman was literally brought to her knees by a diagnosis of tuberculosis. She initially sought conventional medical treatment, but continued to suffer, until she sought care from Chandra Sharma, MD, a homeopathic doctor in England. Tina considered him her doctor and her friend. He passed away in 1986, and she wrote in her autobiography: “I miss him more than I can say.” Tina also noted: “Fortunately, his son, Rajandra, was his protégé and is carrying on his work” (Turner, 1986, 156).
In 1985, Vogue magazine reported on Tina’s longtime interest in homeopathy and Buddhism: “Tina Turner looks about thirty-six, and her skin is flawless. She does not deprive herself. She sips wine at dinner, does not diet, does not take vitamins. If she’s feeling particularly stressed, she consults a homeopathic doctor” (Orth, 1985).
In her autobiography, she wrote: “Life in the fast lane wore me down, changes in my diet and homeopathy saved me. Thanks to my Homeopathic physician, for bringing me back to health and always being available for me” (Turner, 1986).

Dana you're a rock star. I have a great photo of you from Saturday night I'll send as soon as we get all the photos done. Thanks for your article. Wonderful to see you.
No, it's not "the mainstream media" who said she regreted using homeopathy over evidence-base treatments. It's herself.
She said that in 2023 : https://www.instagram.com/p/CpkhvaFBS0K/?igsh=MThhaDF3bHNwNWd3eQ==
Also, quoting her 80's opinion about alternative medicine is an outrageous fallacy, as she realized later how wrong she had been all this years.
Of course, when you're 40, trying to cure a disease with non-proven therapies rarely leads to serious issues. When you get older and face chronic and heavy diseases, you realize quackery and pseudo-science never cured anything but diseases that usually heal theirselves alone.
You're just trying to relieve your guilt by saying "homeopathy did not kill her".
You're right, actually. Sugar doesn't kill you, neither it cures anything. It just caused her - and her husband who gave his kidney - lots of avoidable pain, and might have shorten her life by many years, depriving us of a huge talent.
You should just avoid invoking her name to defend your lucrative quackery business, for decency reasons.
Your lack of decency equals your greediness.
